An aerial search for a fisherman missing after falling from rocks in a remote Far North bay continues today.
The alarm was raised on Sunday afternoon after the man, on a fishing trip with friends, fell into the water at Tapotupotu Bay about 10km south of Cape Rēinga.
Coastguard AirPatrol and police drones are continuing the search today.
The efforts follow a large response on the weekend. Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched on Sunday and Search and Rescue, Coastguard Air Patrol, Surf Life Saving and Northern Rescue Helicopter searched until dark.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Overton described the area then searched as “particularly remote”.
“As the second major water incident in the Northland region in a week, our thoughts are with the missing person’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” Coastguard said.
Police today released the names of the two family members involved in the Patāua South tragedy.
Jason was found on November 15, but Neels remains missing.
