Bream Bay Sliders member and organiser of their annual Mid-Winter Festival of Surfing Roger Hall reckons he's got a simple formula to ensure there's always surf for the event.

Sunday marked the Sliders' 10th anniversary surf festival and Mr Hall said it was unusual that none of the events had to be cancelled or postponed due to poor surf.

He says he always chooses a Sunday where there is a high tide close to noon. As the surf is usually better on an incoming tide, it almost guarantees there's enough surf for the contest to be held.

"So there could be little surf, but the incoming tide at least makes it surfable, and so it was again on Sunday."

Mr Hall said about 20 club members took part in the festival, with most surfing in several divisions at Waipu Cove.

"It was a great day out," he said.

Northern Advocate photographer and keen surfer Michael Cunningham went along to catch the action on the waves.
