Two people who went to the aid of a stabbed man could help Whangarei police with their investigations.
The 69-year-old victim was released from Whangarei Hospital on Tuesday and is recovering from two stab wounds to the back. He had been walking to a supermarket in the rain on Saturdaybetween 6pm and 7pm when he was stabbed in the back in a park on Riverside Drive.
Detective Sergeant Dave Wilkinson said that despite sustaining the wounds the man had managed to phone for an ambulance.
Police believe two people helped him at the scene, and police needed those people to come forward and tell them what they knew.
So far the victim had been unable to remember much about the attack. However, members of the public had come forward with helpful information.
He encouraged those who had not been spoken to by police to contact them if they had information about the attack or were in the area at the time. Police were also looking at footage from security cameras in the area.
