Police are still seeking information after an elderly man was stabbed.

Police are still seeking information after an elderly man was stabbed.

Police have revealed a 69-year-old man walking in a Whangarei park was stabbed in the back twice by a knife-wielding attacker.

After three days in Whangarei Hospital recovering from his injuries, the man was released yesterday afternoon.

Police investigating the attack in Riverside Park, on Riverside Dr in Whangarei, were yet to formally interview the man and they said they would do that later this week, when he had settled in his home.

Northland Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said police did not have a description of the offender yet.

The stabbing happened in the park, on the increasingly popular Hatea Loop between 6pm and 6.45pm on Saturday.
