Southee to earn $600 for every IPL delivery

Tim Southee is set to earn nearly $600 for every ball he bowls in the Indian Premier League, after being sold at auction for $230,000.

Presuming Southee plays in every match - excluding play offs - in the two month long IPL tournament, the Black Cap is looking at bowling a maximum of 64 overs for IPL side Rajasthan.

With Twenty20 cricket being the way it is, it is likely Southee won't be required to bowl all of his 64 allotted overs which means his average amount earned per ball jumps significantly.

Not bad for two months' 'work' for the 25-year-old.

The Northlander was one of only five Kiwis to be snapped up on day one, with players like Ross Taylor and Jesse Ryder being of no interest to the IPL teams.

However, those who went unsold went up again for auction last night.

Kiwis to be picked up in the auction included 23-year-old world record holder, for the fastest ODI century, Corey Anderson.

The all-round Anderson was snaffled for a whopping $866,000, beating out Brendon McCullum ($628,000) to be the highest paid Kiwi after day one of the auctions.

Anderson will play alongside headline acts Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga, Mike Hussey and current Indian test pair Rohit Sharma and Zaheer Khan.

Anderson was rated a snip at that price by onlookers after veteran Indian allrounder Yuvraj Singh drew top price at $2.71 million from Royal Challenger Bangalore, to be coached by former New Zealand captain Dan Vettori. Also selling for New Zealand were all-rounder Jimmy Neesham ($195,000) and recent Black Cap debutant Matt Henry ($58,000).

Other former or current Black Caps players to go unsold in the first auction were Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Hamish Rutherford, Neil Broom, Ian Butler, Grant Elliott, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne, Colin Munro, Jacob Oram, Luke Ronchi and Hamish Bennett.
