It was a case of hair today, gone tomorrow, when Jim Carney Cancer Treatment Centre workmates Dee Telfer and Debbie Schlatter had a close shave for a good cause.
The nurses had their heads shorn on Friday for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand's Shave for a Cure fundraiser.
MsTelfer, clinical nurse manager at the Whangarei Hospital's cancer treatment centre and Ms Schlatter, a registered nurse, both achieved their fundraising targets, raising more than $2500 each.
The Whangarei nurses were helped get rid of their hair by a team from Kamo hair and beauty salon Charlotte Dawn, who not only closed the salon for the event but put money into the fundraising effort. Shave for a Cure is the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer organisation's signature fundraising event.
The event is held from April 4 to April 10 and so far this year has raised more than $536,000 nationwide.
