Two people have died following a crash between a truck and a car this morning on State Highway 1 at the Brynderwyn Hills.

Delays are expected as the Serious Crash Unit continues its investigation, with stop/go traffic management in place.

A police spokesperson said they were notified just after 3am about the crash.

“Sadly, the two occupants in the car were pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The truck driver sustained minor injuries.

More FM Northland reported the crash was between a car and a logging truck, between the SH12 intersection at Brynderwyn and Atlas Quarries.

NZTA urged motorists to delay their journey if possible to allow extra time for a detour via Paparoa, which is suitable for heavy vehicles.

St John has been approached for comment.
