Northland Section of State Highway 1 reopened

A large section of State Highway 1 near Kamo, Whangārei, which was closed this morning has now reopened.

Police were alerted at 4.45am about some concerns for a person’s well-being.

Officers have now resolved the issue and diversions are being lifted in the area.

“Police would like to acknowledge the public’s cooperation and understanding while we responded to the incident this morning, " a police spokesperson said.

Earlier this morning, police closed State Highway 1 in both directions between Great North Rd and Puna Rere Dr and between Kauri and Whangārei.

Southbound traffic was detoured via Great North Rd and Kamo Rd and rejoined SH1 southbound.

However, motorists can still expect delays for the next 30 minutes or so due to the backup of traffic.
