Rugby: Moerewa put a gap on their premiership rivals

Moerewa have further distanced themselves from their 2015 Rugby League Northland Scott Electrical Premiership opponents with a 60-16 win over Muriwhenua.

By securing another large victory, the Tigers have now scored 214 points in their first four rounds of the season.

Furthermore, their points-differential of 156 has seen them soar to the top of the leaderboard as they slowly begin to edge away from top four heavy-hitters Hikurangi, Portland and Takahiwai.

In other games at the weekend, the Hikurangi Stags faced a tough round four match-up against the Portland Panthers.

Both sides have started strongly this season but Portland came off second best, narrowly losing to the Stags 18-16.

Northern Wairoa secured their first win of the year, beating Hokianga 30-24.

Takahiwai proved they are serious contenders this season with a 48-26 win over Horahora.

Otangarei won by default over Kerikeri Makos.
