Logs are retrieved after a trailer rolled yesterday, blocking Otaika Valley Rd for nearly two hours.

A Whangarei road extensively used by logging trucks was yesterday blocked for nearly two hours after a trailer unit rolled and spilled a load of logs.

A fully laden truck and trailer unit was travelling along Otaika Valley Rd heading towards State Highway 1 when the trailer went out of control and rolled about 10am.

Whangarei police Acting Sergeant John Pickering said it appeared the incident happened at a quick succession of corners.

Logs had spilled across the road and up a bank, but the truck unit had remained upright.

"Fortunately there was no other traffic on the road at the tie and no one was injured," Mr Pickering said.

Cordons were put in place diverting traffic away from the road while a truck-mounted crane was used to right the trailer and pick up the logs.

Both units would be inspected by specialist police in the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit to see if any mechanical failures might have contributed to the crash.

No charges had yet been laid and investigations were continuing.
