Jenny Tebbutt is 53 and has never cycled a long distance, but now she is pedalling from the Bluff to Cape Reinga.
On November 24, Mrs Tebbutt left Invercargill and embarked on a 2100km journey to raise awareness and funds for students with learning difficulties and disabilities - tomorrow shewill be in Whangarei.
Mrs Tebbutt works for the Education and Achievement Association, a non-profit organisation that provides support for students with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, autism and those with auditory and visual processing delays.
"Twenty-two per cent of kids in the education system have learning difficulties and disabilities."
Mrs Tebbutt said she felt compelled to do the ride after she noticed a demand for support provided by association, which usually supports people in the Whakatane and Tauranga region as well as other areas of New Zealand.
"All the money raised in each area will stay in the area so when people come to us for help and say they're from Northland, there's certainly money in that fund for Northland," she said.
Northland stops include Awarua on December 18, Kaitaia on December 19 and finally Mrs Tebbutt will end her journey December 20 at Cape Reinga.
Marjorie Phillips, manager of Nga Morehu Whanau Trust, has been organising funding and activities for Mrs Tebbutt to do while in Northland.
