A long standing record has potentially been shattered at the Ruakaka racecourse.
The Logan Racing trained Hasselhoof strode to a 1 minute, 34.46 second victory to win by 11 lengths in race 10 of the Whangarei Racing Club's 'Tartan at the Races' midwinter race meeting.
This performance puts the 3-year-oldbay gelding in contention for the fastest 1600m ever run at the Ruakaka track.
"[It was] a very good run, very impressive," trainer Donna Logan said of Hasselhoof's win on Saturday.
"He's a very green horse and he's still maturing so there's lots of room for improvement."
The raceday saw plenty of colour and flair on the track with another bumper crop of nominations.
Other notable performances from locally trained horses included the Donna Logan trained Silencer, which secured a win in the Whangarei Love It Here 3yo Maiden 1200m.
Ridden by Matthew Cameron, the 3-year-old bay gelding, has now won its last three races.
