Police have named the man who died in the fatal crash on the Brynderwyn Hills, south of Whangarei, yesterday.
He was 72-year-old Jack Mervyn Barnes, of Hamilton.
Mr Barnes was killed on the Brynderwyn Hills, State Highway One, when he collided with a car at about 7.30am. The accident wasone of four in the region in the space of an hour.
Mr Barnes was travelling north on the southern side of the hill when he collided with a Suzuki hatchback travelling south.
Traffic was reduced to one lane while police assessed the scene. The road was cleared at around 10am.
The other three crashes yesterday morning could all be put down to people driving too fast on wet and slippery roads, said Road Policing manager Inspector Murray Hodson.
