Police are investigating after a motorist was robbed of his van and left by the roadside near Kerikeri overnight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Fouhy of Mid-North CIB said the robbery on State Highway 10, happened about 11pm. Two men in an unknown vehicle signalled to the driver, thesole occupant, to pull over.
One of the unknown men got out and assaulted the driver, then drove off with the van.
The alleged victim was left on the roadside. He did not require medical attention, Fouhy said.
The van was found early this morning in Kerikeri but had been set alight. The blaze had to be put out by Fire and Emergency staff. Police took what was left of the vehicle for forensic testing.
“We are working to identify and locate the men believed responsible.
