One person was found with serious injuries on a Far North property and airlifted to hospital in critical condition after a suspected assault.

Detective Senior Sergeant Christan Fouhy said police received reports a seriously injured person had been located at a property on Paponga Rd, Kohukohu, at 8.45pm Wednesday.

Police said one person was taken to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition.

Inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding what occurred.

Hato Hone St John told the Herald they were notified of an assault on Paponga Rd at 8.40pm.

They responded with one ambulance and one helicopter.

St John said one patient was airlifted to Northland Base Hospital.

Police advised anyone with information to contact them online or call 105 using the reference number 251016/7035.
