Neil and Edith McCaw have been coming to the Central Northland Science Fair for more than 14 years.
The Matarau grandparents first came along when their grand-daughter Ashleigh McCaw - now 26 - won her Year 8 science fair at Hukerenui School.
"We come every year. We just find itwonderful," former teacher Mrs McCaw said.
The fair is an annual event that has been running since 1980 and features students' work from schools in across central Northland. It kicked off at Forum North on Monday with interviews and judging, with the hall opened to the public from yesterday.
Among the exhibits this year are an investigation into the effect of light quality on snow pea growth (Jodie Orford, Pompallier College), an analysis of how serious the decline of the long-fin eel is (Isaac Williams, Matarau School) and an investigation into soil erosion (Justine Milina, Huanui College).
"We like to see how they've improved. This year would be one of the best we've seen," Mr McCaw said.
Winners were announced in a ceremony last night.
The hall with remain open to the public today from 8.30am to 5.30pm, and tomorrow from 8.30am to 4pm. For more information visit centralnorthlandsciencefair.co.nz.
