Northland: One dead in crash on State Highway 14 at Tangiteroria in Kaipara.

One person has died in a crash on State Highway 14 at Tangiteroria in Kaipara.

Police were notified of the single-vehicle crash about 6.30pm after the vehicle was discovered off the road by a passing motorist, police said.

The crash happened on the stretch between Maungatapere and Dargaville.

The Serious Crash Unit examined the scene and inquiries into the crash are ongoing.

A St John spokesperson said they received a call about 6.21pm and sent one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle.

The highway was closed for several hours and reopened about 11.30pm.
