Voting papers for the Northpower Electric Power Trust's board elections will be in the hands of voters in the Whangarei district this week. An election is not required for the two Kaipara positions because there are only two candidates, Richard Drake and Sheena McKenzieThe documents were posted
out last Friday and must be returned no later than noon, November 19. The voting form can be returned to the electoral officer or an electoral official, by post in the prepaid envelope or voting can be done online, following instructions on the documents. They can also be hand delivered to the Northpower Electric Power Trust office, 134 Bank St, Whangarei.
Te Orewai hui
Treaty claims, Maori land and a Ngapuhi engagement report will be discussion topics at a hapu hui next week. The hui is being called for the hapu Te Orewai on Thursday, November 10 at 5pm. The meeting, at Te Karaiti Te Aranga Anglican Church, is to discuss Treaty claims and key issues, a Maori Land Court update, a rates update, and the hapu's position on Ngapuhi engagement report - Maranga Mai.
Erosion mat on mend
Exposed erosion protection matting at Pataua South beach will be repaired in the coming months. Whangarei District Council parks and recreation manager Paul McDonald said the area was a "perched beach" constructed on top of a metal base, with the now partially exposed fabric designed to stop the metal mixing with the sand. The issue would be solved through building another timber groyne, and replacement of the matting and sand. Resource consent for the work would likely be granted in the next three weeks, and the work contracted out. A local resident had complained about the issue, citing unsightliness and health and safety concerns. The council said the exposed matting did not pose a threat.
