Matakohe School in Kaipara received $10,000 from Woolworths New Zealand’s Growing for Good grants. The money will go towards a garden, orchard and butterfly house for the school’s 37 pupils to enjoy. Principal Robyn Young said they would be able to become as self-sufficient as possible with fresh food fromthe garden going into school lunches. Any surplus food will be distributed among the school and community.
Hapū strategy online
Whangaroa Papa Hapū’s (WPH) Draft Mandate Strategy is live on its website. The document outlines how the hapū grouping proposes to seek a mandate to represent Whangaroa in Te Tiriti settlement negotiations with the Crown. WPH is calling on Whangaroa whānau to read the document and provide feedback before any next steps are taken.
Free buses for A&P Show
All Citylink buses will be free on December 6 for the A&P Show. Two shuttle buses will run between the Rose St Bus Hub and the show in Barge Park continuously from 8.40am until 4.15pm.
Dairy farmers are achieving more with fewer cows. The latest New Zealand Dairy Statistics 2024-25, released by DairyNZ and Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC), revealed total milksolids production rose 2.9% in 2024-25 to 1.94 billion kilograms despite a 0.5% fall in cow numbers to 4.68 million.
