A man who objected to his partner being arrested in Whangarei ended up visiting police cells too. Acting Sergeant Jeremy Weston said the woman was allegedly found breaching the city's liquor ban at 12.50am on Saturday in Vine St. Mr Weston said as the woman was about tobe driven to the police station her partner opened the police car door and refused to close it. The man was arrested and charged with obstruction.
Boys start park fire
Two boys, aged 12 and 10, have been referred to police youth-aid after they were caught starting a fire in Laurie Hall Park. The boys were seen setting fire to a bush at 2.55pm on Saturday and police called. The pair were picked up in Norfolk St and found to have a lighter and Mr Weston said they admitted setting fire to a T-shirt and throwing it into bushes at the park.
