A Whangarei District Council contractor painted roadmarkings on Ngunguru Rd the day before the stretch was resealed, meaning it had to do the marking again at its own cost.
The mix-up happened last week when Coastline Roadmarkers and Signs painted the centre line and other road markings on about a1km stretch of Ngunguru Rd.
The next day, contractor Fulton Hogan laid new seal on the road, from Kaiatea Rd, on top of the fresh road markings. The road has been re-marked since.
The situation prompted a call to the Northern Advocate from a Ngunguru resident, who was concerned that ratepayers would have to pay twice for the mix up.
The council said the two contractors involved usually communicate well so this sort of situation did not happen. However, that had not happened and the mix up occurred. The cost of re-marking the road, expected to be several thousand dollars, has been borne by Coastline.
