Couple named
The Northland couple killed after they fell from their motorbike and collided with an oncoming ute were Laurie Grant Imms, 48, and Margaret Ann O'Keefe, 46, both of Hikurangi. Emergency services were called to the crash on Murray Rd, 45km northwest of Whangarei, about 1.45pm on Saturday. They were among 78 members of the Ruawai Motorcycle Club and Hikurangi Riders Club who had set off on a day-long club run after a sausage sizzle at the Tangiteroria Tavern, between Whangarei and Dargaville.
Stolen then burnt out
A car stolen from a Kamo home early yesterday wed was found burnt out 45 minutes later.
Whangarei police Sergeant Graeme Povey said the car was reported stolen about 2.30am. It was found burnt out behind the Kamo Shell service station. no one was seen leaving the vehicle.
Disorderly
A woman who chose to ignore a police warning ended up being arrested.
Officers were called to Otangarei about 1am after an argument spilled out onto the road. The woman was yelling and screaming abuse and was warned by police to stop. She didn't and was charged with disorderly behaviour.
Two sisters allegedly stole a handbag from a locker area at Whangarei Hospital and went on a shopping spree. Sergeant Graeme Povey said the women aged 21 and 23 took a credit card and used it in several shops. They also allegedly shoplifted in two businesses. They were jointly charged with burglary, two charges of shoplifting and three of obtaining by pecuniary advantage.Conference delayed
Tribunal hearing date change
A Waitangi Tribunal judicial conference previously scheduled for February 20 to discuss the Crown position on generic issues relevant to the 387 Ngapuhi Treaty claims has been provisionally moved back three weeks to March 12. The presiding officer for the second stage of the tribunal's Te Paparahi o Te Raki inquiry, Judge Craig Coxhead, last week proposed the change of date, dependant on a joint claimant statement of generic issues being filed by February 10 and the Crown filing their statement of position and concessions by March 5.
