A resident of a Northland street where a man was allegedly stabbed in the chest says she was shocked to hear a violent incident had happened in what is usually a "good little street".
Police were called to an address in Long St, Awanui, at about 12.20am on Saturday morningwhere a man was in a serious condition after suffering stab wounds to his chest.
The 35-year-old victim was airlifted to Whangarei Hospital at about 6am that morning after being first taken to Kaitaia Hospital, police said.
A resident said Long St was usually quiet and she was shocked to hear "quite nice" neighbours had been involved in the alleged stabbing.
"It's a good little street, we don't have any hassles.
The resident said police were at the house all day Saturday.
A 36-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to injure. She appeared in Kaitaia District Court on Saturday and is due to appear in Auckland District Court today.
