Northland Police were pleased with the behaviour of most people over new years.

Northland Police were pleased with the behaviour of most people over new years.

A search of the waters around Paihia as well as missing person enquiries have failed to shed any light on a bundle of clothing found on the beach after the town's New Year's Eve festivities.

The discovery on New Year's Day sparked fears that one of a number of revellers who celebrated the arrival of 2015 with a skinny dip may have got into trouble in the water.

However, Kerikeri Senior Sergeant Peter Robinson said a police patrol boat failed to find anything and no one had been reported missing.

Meanwhile, the final tally of New Year's Eve arrests in Paihia was 17. The majority were for disorderly behaviour and most offenders were released with pre-charge warnings.

Four appeared in Whangarei District Court the next day for breach of bail or on outstanding warrants to arrest. A man found to be carrying a knife was charged with possession of an offensive weapon and will also appear in court.

Three drivers stopped in Paihia were charged with drinking with excess breath alcohol. Mr Robinson said no one suffered serious injuries on the night and police were pleased with the behaviour of most.
