Whangarei school children are busy exercising their singing voices in preparation for the annual Kids for Kids show, This is Ka Pai this week.
The mass choir event, which is celebrating its 20th birthday, works closely with World Vision to encourage children and their school communities to make a differencearound the world.
Twelve schools from Whangarei will band together to sing hits from New Zealand artists such as Brooke Fraser, Crowded House and Herbs. The Whangarei venue is one of two in Northland and 19 across the country from Kerikeri (held last night) to Gore.
Dayna Vawdrey, the events tour manager, said the success during the past two decades is due to giving kids the chance to perform on stage in front of an audience.
"It's great to be able to make Kiwi kids here in New Zealand and around the world smile," Ms Vawdrey said.
In the years the event has been running, more then a quarter of a million primary and intermediate school children have taken to the stage to belt out some tunes in aid of World Vision.
World Vision CEO Chris Clarke said the support the organisation receives through Kids for Kids is incredible and hopes to see this continue as the event grows.
"Since 1995, Kids for Kids has had great success with 5459 kids being sponsored through the shows, equating to 8.3 million dollars raised through child sponsorship," Mr Clarke said.
This year the show comes back to its national roots with many Kiwi classics in the lineup including performances from entertainers Jackie Clarke and Nathan King.
"It's been awesome having Nathan King and Jackie Clarke on the road with us, great for kids to experience working with a variety of New Zealand talent," said Ms Vawdrey.
The shows will be held tomorrow and Thursday from 7.30pm at Forum North.
