A man was airlifted to Whangarei Hospital by the Northland Rescue Helicopter with serious pelvic injuries after an accident at a forestry block near Mamaranui.
St John said they were called to Middleton Rd just before 7am yesterday.
Senior Constable Ewen Cumming said the accident had nothing to do withthe forestry block's operations.
It is understood the man was run over by his own ute after trying to catch up with it when the handbrake failed and it started rolling away.
