A man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after two people were injured during an alleged fight at Ruakaka.

The fight was one of a number of callouts that had Northland's emergency services kept busy over the long weekend.

Whangarei police Senior Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe said officers were called to a property in One Tree Pt Rd about 9.45pm yesterday (EDS: Saturday) after reports of two men fighting.

Mr Metcalfe said there were three people at the address drinking when the two men allegedly got into a fight. One of the men was rushed to hospital with what was initially thought to be a serious head injury, but he was discharged in the early hours of this morning after receiving stitches. Whangarei police CIB is investigating and no further details were available at edition time.
