• Police have charged a 45-year-old man with murder over the death of a 3-year-old girl in Kaikohe.
• The man will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Monday.
• Victim Support is providing support to the girl’s family and the local community.

Police have charged a 45-year-old man with murder over the death of a 3-year-old girl in Kaikohe.

Police were called to an address on Tawanui Road on Wednesday night, where they found the girl unresponsive.

Despite medical treatment, she died at the scene.

The man will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Monday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Christan Fouhy, the Far North area manager of investigations, said police will continue their inquiries in the area over the next few days.

Victim Support is providing support to the girl’s family and the local community.

Because the case is before the courts, the police are unable to comment further.
