Man charged with murder appears in court

A man has appeared in Whangarei District Court today charged with the murder of a 61-year-old man.

No application was made for name suppression when Koroneria Kingi, 48, of Ngaratunua, appeared on a charge of murder before a justice of the peace this morning.

Kingi was arrested shortly after 6.30pm yesterday when police were called to a house in Church Rd, north west of Whangarei. He was spoken to by police and held in custody overnight at the police station.

Kingi was remanded in custody with out plea to appear in the High Court at Whangarei on March 3.
