The investigation into a crash in Whangārei where a pedestrian was fatally struck by a truck is ongoing, police say.

Emergency services were called to Kamo Rd on Thursday morning outside Cafe Narnia, in the suburb of Kensington.

Initial reports suggested serious injuries were involved, but police later confirmed a person had died.

They are yet to release the person’s name.

Kamo Rd was closed between Mains Ave and Simons St for most of Thursday while the Serious Crash Unit attended and the scene was cleared.
