David's Pharmacy in Kamo has beaten off 256 competitors to win the the title of New Zealand Community Pharmacy of the Year, 2013.
Owner and pharmacist David Postlewaight said there was no secret to his two-year-old business' success.
"It's an old-school pharmacy, being part of the community. There's no magic.
"Good customer service and going out of our way to treat people well," is why Mr Postlewaight thinks his business won. "That's what we thought of doing when we opened and it's worked."
The pharmacy needed 100 customers to fill out a survey to be eligible to enter the competition. These were then judged by a New Zealand Pharmacy Guild judging panel.
Mr Postlewaight and his wife Joanne, who works in the pharmacy, employ three fulltime staff.
He says he would not have won the award without his "fantastic" staff. His customers were "stoked" that the store won the award, he said. The prize includes $1000 and assistance towards marketing the business.
