Kaipara mayoralty byelection - Christian Simon: We need to promote the most modern, efficient and affordable infrastructure based on the highest international best practice models.

Kaipara needs me as its mayor because:

We need to promote the most modern, efficient and affordable infrastructure based on the highest international best practice models.

Traffic - road fixing is only one side. In the long-term concepts of traffic reduction and electrification is essential. In growing towns pedestrians and cyclists need design priority. We need to study an "On Call Bus System". Long term, Marsden Point will become a major transport hub. We need to revitalise our railway to connect.

Town planning - each significant subdivision proposal needs to be exposed to a public "brainstorming" process, so every good idea is heard and listened to.

Water health - we need to get serious about fencing off our streams and waterways.

Plastic waste - what is useful as a water pipe is an economic and ecologic disaster as a short-term-product like plastic bags. Seeking alternatives needs council's financial support.

Health - agri-industrial-farming started about 50 years ago with a programme from President Kennedy. Mineral fertilisers produce big crops, but degenerate the soil. We miss the little minerals that are essential for our balance. This is the main reason that many of us are too big and ill.

Wastewater - There is a reason that Fonterra refuses to keep milk from wastewater irrigation fields. Further improvements need separation systems. When we do this, we change waste to value. Complete wastewater treatment can be done onsite on very small sections.

Organic holistic farming - 15 per cent of the big US farmers have converted to small farming and are doing quite well economically. Let the KDC create an information exchange.

Work opportunities - while it is necessary to dream on a large scale, actual progress relies on taking small, affordable constructive steps.

Communities in charge! - community issues and assets need to be managed from the communities. Wastewater schemes need to be managed and 100 per cent financed by those who are connected. Bigger is better is the ideology from yesterday. Smaller is smarter!
