A homicide investigation into the disappearance of a missing Northland man is underway, police say.

It's at least the fourth homicide investigation in the Far North so far this year.

The 48-year-old, a Tribesman gang member from Waipapakauri, was reported missing by his partner after she last saw him at a Taipa property in the early hours of Friday, March 18.

Since then police have been investigating his disappearance, said Detective Inspector Kevin Burke.

"Information gathered during our investigation has led us to treat Mr Moore's disappearance as a homicide investigation," said Mr Burke.

He said police had made a number of arrests in relation to other offending uncovered during the investigation.

Many of those people are in custody on charges including aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, offering to sell methamphetamine, Burke said.

"As this is an active investigation we cannot discuss specifics of the case, or suspects, however we are following positive lines of enquiry," said Mr Burke.

Burke said so far police received information from members of the public which had"greatly assisted police".

Anyone else who has information on Mr Moore's disappearance to contact us at Kaitaia Police Station on 09 408 6500."
