Those who elect to celebrate Christmas in the true spirit for which it was instituted will find peace joy and true happiness, says a reader.

Those who elect to celebrate Christmas in the true spirit for which it was instituted will find peace joy and true happiness, says a reader.

I think it most important that it be made known that there are numerous loyal New Zealanders who take exception to and are shocked at the absurd suggestion by a prominent person that Christmas be eliminated from all celebrations centred around the December 25, for the most thoughtless reasons.

It leaves the question to be asked "What does the 25th December and Christmas truly represent and where does this have it's origin? Was it not to honour the birth of Jesus Christ and to pay respect for His life and to ponder upon the principles and standards for living which he gave to the world, principles of Love for God and for fellowman, instituted for the benefit of all mankind.

Over the years, unfortunately, the sanctity of Christmas has diminished in respect to reference for that for which it had it's origin and there continue to be those who want to remove Christ from Christmas. In so doing they are doing nothing more than turning Christmas into a commercial racket and meaningless celebration where violence, drunkenness and all manner of degenerate behaviour prevail.

Those who elect to celebrate Christmas in the true spirit for which it was instituted will find peace joy and true happiness as they celebrate this time together with friends and family and will enjoy this special time together and not be carried away or be adversely influenced by the unsavoury and worldly influences that take place all around.
