Kids and teachers from the Whangarei school were covered head to toe in coloured powder.

As children from a Whangarei school ran through an obstacle course they gradually became more and more colourful.

Their hair, faces and clothing became covered in green, yellow and pink coloured powder - and they were loving it.

About 200 children from Glenbervie School took part in a Colour Run yesterday, an event which came after the students collectively raised $17,000 for the school.

Tayla Yeates, 8, was covered head to toe in the coloured powder and said she had lots of fun.

"I'm pretty sure it was like you were running through a big pink cloud, or green, or yellow. It was really fun, we all had lots of fun," she said.

As soon as the Colour Run kicked off it bucketed down with rain but that didn't put a dampener on things and it eventually it cleared.

Tayla said she was grateful to the teachers from organising the event.
