The second-to-last round of Bayleys Southern Districts Premiers fixtures will take place tomorrow and, with finals footy on the horizon, many fans from around the region will be keeping a close eye on the movings and shakings of their local teams.

Wellsford and Mid Northern are well ahead on points after battling through most of the round-robin matches unsurpassed.

Wellsford will face third-placed Mid Western this weekend in a clash that could provide one of the more interesting results of the round.

Mid Northern will have an easy assignment on paper as they host Hikurangi at Hukerenui. However, after putting on a solid display of grunt against Wellsford last weekend, Mid Northern will need to be wary of the visiting Hikurangi side.

Climbing their way into fourth after a dream run through the back end of the season, Otamatea will be hoping to close out their remaining two games successfully to play in the semifinals later this month.

Hosting the ailing Kamo team this weekend, Otamatea will most likely continue on their play-offs run.

Old Boys Marist have snuck their way into fifth spot but will need a string of results to go their way if they are to have a sniff of finals rugby. A win over the Western Sharks tomorrow will keep them in good stead but nothing is guaranteed at this point in the season.

The remaining game of the round will see Waipu host Hora Hora at Caledonian Park.
