Coast breakfast hosts Bernie (Oliver-Kirby) and Jase (Reeves) were broad casting their show from the Hits Northland's Whangārei studio yesterday as they started a road trip to Hawke's Bay.

Northland listeners of The Coast radio station got a special visit from breakfast hosts Bernie and Jase yesterday to thank them for tuning into the station after it moved to the FM frequency at the start of the year.

Bernie (Oliver-Kirby) and Jase (Reeves) broadcast their show from the Hits Northland studio at NZME central in Whangārei on the start of a week-long road trip ending in the Hawke's Bay to broadcast their show from outside Auckland.

''We've had some great feedback from listeners since we moved to FM up here, so we wanted to say thank you to the people of Northland,'' she said.

They started the trip in a campervan on Sunday, when they drove into Whangārei ahead of yesterday's broadcast.

The Coast has increased its listeners in Northland since it moved to the 106FM frequency in Whangārei on January 1 and Bernie said the road trip was a way of thanking listeners.

Bernie said the trip would be interesting and they were looking forward to being well received elsewhere after their amazing experience in Northland.

She didn't think there'd be any issues between the pair, despite being stuck in a campervan with each other.

''No. We spend so much time together in the studio we're almost like family so there'll be no problems on the road,'' she said.

There may be a bit of conflict though over who drives. But Jase concedes that he won't be taking the wheel if Bernie insists on driving.

While in Whangārei the pair caught up with some well known folk from the city, including rugby greats Eric Rush and Ian "Kamo kid" Jones and Rush convinced them to visit his Regent New World store. After all, Jase said, you don't argue with rugby legends.
