Whangārei police appeal for information on alleged scammer targeting elderly women

An alleged Whangārei scammer has been approaching elderly women in their cars and asking for money to feed her children, police say.

A spokesperson said the woman has convinced several people to give her money.

Though police have obtained several reports, they suspect more people may have been targeted.

Police described the woman as in her late 40s to 50s and of Māori descent.

The spokesperson said people should call 111 if they are approached by the woman and feel unsafe.

Anyone with information or impacted by the woman’s offending can contact police on 105, referencing file number 260114/0133.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
