People living in Kerikeri and Waipapa now have their own community response plan in case a Civil Defence emergency strikes.
Community response plans are designed to help communities be self-sufficient if an emergency leaves them temporarily cut off.
The Kerikeri/Waipapa plan is the 23rd the Far North District Council has
helped communities to develop. It is now helping Waima residents develop an emergency plan for their area.
Far North Civil Defence co-ordinator Bill Hutchinson said the Kerikeri/Waipapa plan focused on high-risk incidents, such as flooding and tsunami, and the welfare needs of people in such emergencies.
A Kerikeri Civil Defence Response Group led by Jim and Gail Boyd would administer the plan, reviewing it annually to keep pace with changes in personnel and contact details.
