After securing a spot in the New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music Contest semifinal, a Northland chamber music group will have to compete against some big city rivals if it wants to win.

Whangarei ensemble Brioso4, also known as Pugs of Dub City, will take on six groups from Auckland, three from Christchurch and two from Wellington in the national contest in August. Brioso4 are a group of four girls from Whangarei Girls' High School and home school.

If the group wins the national final, each member will receive the Wallace Arts Trust Prize of $1000. They won the right to compete in the national semifinal after winning the Northland heat of the contest earlier this month.

The New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music Contest semifinals are on Saturday, August 1, and the national competition is on August 2 at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington. This year, the music contest will celebrate its 50th jubilee.
