A man who allegedly stole a phone, then made a call to a friend who was coincidentally with the owner of the phone, was nabbed by Whangarei police.
Whangarei officer Aaron Furze said alcohol, clothes, a knife and a cellphone were allegedly taken during an alleged burglary of a Tikipunga
house.
Suspicions were aroused when a man made a call to a friend who was with the phone owner, who quickly realised something was not right.
Police were called about 11.20am yesterday and arrested a 31-year-old man on Spedding Rd in Tikipunga.
He will appear in Whangarei District Court later this month on charges of burglary and unlawful possession of a knife.
