Kaeo boxer Jamie Porter won a professional bout against Australian Joe Lloyd at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast earlier this month.
Tipping the scales at 90.7kg, the 32-year-old fighter overwhelmed his 25-year-old opponent Lloyd (from Victoria) who had dropped down from the heavyweight division for the cruiserweight bout onMay 8.
Porter's father, Rusty, said victory was achieved with some clever boxing.
"Lloyd's camp had obviously done some homework on Jamie as he came out in the first round wanting to go toe-to-toe. Instead Jamie stayed outside and boxed, letting him [Lloyd] walk on to his right hand and catching him every time.
"Joe started to tire in round four, Jamie started backing him up with big body shots. The fight eventually went to the sixth and final round before the judges gave the nod to Jamie's corner on a unanimous decision."
