Bowls: Hikurangi combo do well to reach semifinals

The new bowling season officially opens this Saturday at Bowls Whangarei greens. All clubs have had an invitation to attend. The official part of the day starts at 1.30pm. New Centre hand books will be available.

Tiger Turf NZ finals: A great effort by our Hikurangi combination skipped by Anne Bateman to reach the semifinals of the National Winter league three player pairs tournament held in Auckland last weekend. They were beaten by the eventual winners of the event, a team skipped by Bob Bell of Meadowbank Club, Oamaru.

World Bowls will start in Christchurch on November 29 and runs through until December 11.

Burnside greens will be the headquarters with section play also being played at Fendalton, Papanui and Canterbury Centre greens.

Every top player in the world will be participating.

Northland selectors have announced the following squads to play against Far North, Auckland and North Harbour starting on October 3 at Waipu and Mangawhai greens.

1-5 year women: Anna Greenwood, Eva Chrol, Jan Guiness, Janice Payne, Judy Fraser, Judy McKenzie, Lyn O'Neil, Rawi Brewster, Tina Harris.

1-8 year women: Carol Neeley, Chris Budge, Jan Hollingsworth, Jane Walker, Jenny Hardie, Judy Moyle, Laurel Jones, Mona Guttenbeil, Sue Rockstad.

1-8 year men: Rob Anderson, Kelvin Bint, Garry Fraser, Jason Webb, Ross Hollingsworth, Trevor Moyle, Bill Harris, Glen Wintle, Reece Jones.

Northland Centre pennants competition is to be played on the weekend September 17-18. Clubs are reminded that entries close for this event on the September 12. Entries to the centre website or centre office please.

Have a Go at Bowls days: Sunday September 4, Hikurangi 10.30am; Kamo Saturday September 24, 1pm, Kensington Sunday October 9, Waipu Saturday October 15, 10am; Onerahi Saturday November 1, 10am; One Tree Point Sunday November 13, 10am.
