A former Whangarei bank manager has admitted stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from customers' accounts.
The offences were committed between February 2008 and June 2010 from the ANZ bank in Whangarei.
Vanessa Evelyn Adams, 39, of Maunu, who managed the bank, admitted 14 charges of theft in the Whangarei District Court.
Adams has been remanded on bail and will re-appear for sentencing on March 10.
Adams stole $320,458 from customers' accounts.
On June 30, 2010 she stole $1681.37 from the account of one woman. Between May 11 and July 30, 2009 she stole $92,293.63 from the account of another woman and $10,000 from a couple's account.
Between March and May 2009, Adams took $6806 from another couple and in October that year, a further $26,519.89 from yet another woman's account.
A doctor's family trust account had $33,000 stolen between May and June 2009 while $30,000 was stolen from the account of another man on February 2, 2009.
Other thefts included $16,009, $16,009, $49,544, $12,000, $10,000, $11,588 and $5000 from accounts.
The ANZ was tightlipped about the nature of the fraud when contacted by the Northern Advocate last year.
A bank spokesperson said Whangarei police had been notified of unauthorised transactions made by a staff member where a small number of customers' accounts were compromised.
"ANZ has no tolerance for this kind of behaviour and we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers," the bank said.
"We acted quickly to investigate as soon as we were aware.
"This incident has been deeply disappointing for all our staff who work at the branch and the bank as a whole. The staff member involved no longer works for ANZ."
The bank said protecting its customers against fraud was something it took very seriously.
