Armed Offenders Squad callout at Hikurangi

UPDATE 2.31PM:

Police were called to a rural property in Hikurangi at about 10.20am following reports that a man brandished a firearm at some occupants of the property.

After the man had allegedly pulled out the firearm he left the address and went into nearby farmland.

At 11.30am the man was located and arrested without incident. He did not have the firearm on him, but police located it a short while later.

Charges are yet to be laid.

The Armed Offenders Squad has been called to an incident at Hikurangi, north of Whangarei.

The police have blocked off access to Cinder Way, the road which leads to the Wilsonville Quarry, which is along the Northern entrance to Hikurangi.

Three cars containing members of the Armed Offenders Squad just arrived on scene at there are about 8 police cars at the scene including a police dog unit.
