The specialist Armed Offenders Squad was called to a Far North house after reports of a man with a firearm.
Police said a woman went to Kaitaia Police station just before midday today and alleged a man had assaulted her and had a firearm.
Police put cordons on roads around
the rural property on Awaroa Rd, near Herekino.
A male was arrested without incident about 5.20pm and taken to Kaitaia police station to be interviewed.
It was likely he would appear in court tomorrow.
