Old-school kaumatua unfamiliar with the high-tech wonders of cyberspace were impressed when shown three interactive digital applications telling Ngatiwai stories.
Their delight was evident as they watched Moko catch his first fish in Te Ika Tuatahi a Moko when the applications for tablets and smartphones were launched at the Terenga
Paraoa Marae in Whangarei late last month.
The other two applications are called Ngatiwai ki Uta; Ngatiwai ki Tai (Ngatiwai of the Land; Ngatiwai of the Sea) and Te Omanga Roa a Nga Maunga o te Moananui a Kiwa (The Great Mountain Race of the Pacific).
Ngatiwai Education's Joeann Waata said the best part of the resources was they reflected the work of three students from Kamo High and one from Tikipunga High School who were of Ngatiwai descent.
The Kamo trio, Wirihana Walters Williams, Pikimaui Stone and Vahance Gillies, and Tikipunga student Hannah Edmonds were guided in their efforts by kaumatua George Tokowhati Martin.
