Stone (Edward Norton) is a complicated man with an evil heart at his core.
In prison for standing by as his grandparents were killed, and then torching the house to conceal the crime, Stone is away for a long stint.
If Stone wants to see the outside world anytime soon, he must convince parole officer Jack Mabry (Robert de Niro) that he has turned his life around and is safe for release.
However, Stone is taking no chances.
He is desperate for freedom and will do anything to secure it.
He enlists the help of his beautiful wife, Lucetta (Milla Jovovich), to ensure that happens.
It is up to Lucetta to inject herself into Jack's life under the guise of a caring wife.
Once she has won his confidence, she needs to put him in a position where she can be certain of his help.
Jack is nearing the end of his career and he lives a loveless life with his wife. In fact, there is nothing in his existence that really excites him anymore, so he is a ripe target for Lucetta's charms.
As Jack gets to know her, he also gets to know a more disturbing side of Stone.
He finds himself caught in the middle of the couple.
Jack must solve his moral dilemma before a man is released who could cause unspeakable damage.
Stone is a psychological thriller that is real "edge of your seat stuff".
Norton plays the psychopath to perfection while De Niro performs with typical authority.
