Matches indicated she could be ready for a return to the winners' circle at Awapuni on Saturday when she turned in a smart solo gallop at this morning's Hastings track session.
The course proper was open for galloping on and provided excellent footing after rain yesterday.
Working about half-way out on
the course proper Matches worked over 1200m in 1:19.2, coming home strongly over the last 600 in 37.2.
The Woodman mare was hardly blowing at all after the workout and looks ready for Saturday's intermediate 1600m race at the Manawatu meeting. Darryl Bradley has been booked to ride her.
Her stablemate Shostakovich was let off with an easy assignment in preparation for the 1600m maiden at Awapuni, running 800m on the course proper in 54.3, the last 600 in 39.1. Darryl Bradley will also ride him.
Magnify, who lines up in the maiden 1300m event, was not doing much more than three-quarter pace when working in from the 1000m peg on the course proper, speeding up slightly over the last 600 in 40.5. He has freshened up well and Bruce Herd rides him on Saturday.
Surround Jazz turned in one of the quickest times of the morning, speeding over 800m in 50, the last 600 in 36.2. He looks to be coming up well for trainer Wayne Davies.
Baresque, another entered for Saturday's Manawatu meeting, worked with Sordid Affair over 1000m on the course proper in 1:6.4, coming home the last 600 in 38.
Baresque is another who has been freshened since last racing and rates a chance in the progressive 1400m race at Awapuni. Apprentice Daniel Bothamley will ride the Al Akbar mare.
Sins and Goodhorseyeahright worked together over 800m on the course proper in 52.9, the last 600 in 38.6 while Dare You To ran a solo 1200m on the same track in 1:19.7, coming home the last 600 in 38.3.
A Zabeel-Anago filly and a Danasinga-Mixture filly, both in Guy Lowry's stable, clocked 1:5.5 for 1000m on the course proper, the last 600 in 36.7. They are both going to the Woodville trials next Tuesday.
A Senor Pete gelding and a Seven Figures filly, both trained by Katrina Walding, ran an easy 600m on the course proper in 40.1 while Dane de Vivre clocked 55 for 800m on the plough, the last 600 in 39.
A Carnegie three-year-old and a Stravinsky-Sneetch three-year-old ran 800m on the course proper in 56, the last 600 in 39.
Dido was working keenly at the end of her 1000m on the plough as was Fly To Boston.
