Oh so close ... a Hawke's Bay over-35 men's tennis team was beaten by a countback of one game in their final at the national seniors teams tournament in North Harbour yesterday.

The Hawke's Bay side lost 23-22 to Northland on a games countback after both of their doubles matches were split. Hastings Jason Kitching and Havelock North's Craig Giddy lost the first set of their match 7-6 before winning the second 7-6.

The Greendale pair of Damon Curtis and Russell Broughton won their first set 6-4, before losing the second 6-3. On the way to the final the Bay team won five of their fixtures with wins against Auckland, Thames Valley, Canterbury, Northland and North Harbour.

Their two losses were against another two Auckland teams.
